There plenty of options today when it comes to Flat Screen TVs. I have worked with almost every TV on the market. After 10 years in the business this is my opinion on what to buy.
A good rule of thumb is never buy anything more than 3 models down from the top. Its always a good idea to get the Best TV they make in the manufacture of your choice. I would go down in size to get a better quality TV if I have to. Bigger is not always better. If that TV is more than you want to spend, go down 1 trim level. If that's still to much you can go down 1 more level without loosing to much. Any more than 2 models down from the top and your wasting your money. Once your into that level they are all the same. It becomes a price war at that point. The manufacture wants to see how many stats they can cover and still be the lowest price. They do this by buying cheaper parts and exaggerating the specs. The features and technology that set that company apart from the others is lost once you get into the Loss leader TVs. Like anything sold at Walmart and Target. The best TVs are Samsung 7,8,9 series Sony XBR, and LG WebOS.
Different Style TVs available:
4k resolution is a must when buying TVs over 50". However its a waste of time on TVs smaller than 50" Don't worry about content. 4k Movies are just around the corner. Netflix and DirecTV already have it.
1. LCD (
liquid crystal display)1080p Full HD fluorescent lights used for illumination w/ 120-240htz refresh 1m:1 contrast or higher Usually the lowest cost available.
2.
LCD w/ LED backlighting The LEDs can come in 2 forms: dynamic RGB LEDs, or white Edge-LEDs positioned around the rim of the
screen which use a special diffusion panel to spread the light evenly
behind the screen. Sony is the best at this. If your looking for a great TV without spending a fortune for all the processing needed to make the picture look smooth and
OLED is to expensive, LED edge lit is the way to go. Very affordable and you can get 4K resolution without breaking the bank. Sony XBR is the way to go here.
3.
True LED Display (Light Emitting Diodes)
1,920 x 1,080 Native Resolution 6,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
6,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
Difference in luminosity between brightest color (white) & darkest (black) over time. Higher ratio means more contrast.
Real 240Hz™ Refresh Rate. Samsung is by far the best TV in this class. The 7,8 & 9 series is the best option available. Any TV below the 7 Series in a Samsung is not worth your time.
4. The Very Best Possible technology available today is
OLED. An
organic light-emitting diode (
OLED) is a
light-emitting diode (LED) in which the
emissive electroluminescent layer is a film of
organic compound that emits light in response to an electric current. In short its the best os Plasma and LED combined. LG WebOS is the best version of this technology as of today.
